HOFOR A/S and Ørsted have signed a letter of intent to harness the electricity output of HOFOR’s planned 250 MW Aflandshage offshore wind farm (OWF) in the Øresund. Ørsted will utilise the electricity as part of the 1.3 GW Green Fuels for Denmark project, an ambitious partnership seeking to produce sustainable fuels for the transport sector in the Greater Copenhagen region.
Aflandshage OWF is under development, and is expected to begin producing power between 2024 and 2025. HOFOR will establish a substation at Avedøreværket, the Green Fuels for Denmark electrolysis hub, where the wind power will be used to produce sustainable fuels via electrolysis.
The output from the Aflandshage OWF will be able to power the electrolysis for Green Fuels for Denmark’s first 10 MW phase, as well as part of the second 250 MW phase.
COWI is a knowledge partner and advisor on the Green Fuels for Denmark project, and is an advisor to HOFOR, responsible for the electrical infrastructure connecting Aflandshage OWF with the transmission system, as well as the Green Fuels for Denmark facilities.
