NYCDOT Retaining Wall Asset Management System

In 1999, Gandhi was retained by the New York City DOT to create an inventory of retaining walls along all streets and highways within the City. The inventory included all walls retaining 2 meters or more of soil and measuring 10 meters or more in length. Gandhi identified 2,070 such walls, of which 1,178 were provisionally identified as NYSDOT-owned and 626 as NYCDOT‐owned.

Gandhi also performed condition assessments on each of the 626 City‐owned walls. The complete inventory data, plus the condition data on the City‐owned walls, were stored on a Microsoft Access database with geographical information system (GIS) and photo linkages. This work was completed in 2001.
