Public School 32
P.S. 32, a Bronx school designed in the English Collegiate Gothic style, features Oriel windows, Tudor-arched doorways, step-gable roofs, and decorative terracotta cornices.
In 2006 Gandhi Engineering was hired by the New York City School Construction Authority to update and modernize the building. Our work included structural rehabilitation of the gable roof system and roof bulkheads, repair and replacement of the steel spandrels / lintels, and replacement of the underground pipe tunnels. In addition, the building was upgraded to a climate control system and security lighting was installed.
A particular challenge on this large-scale project was performing the rehabilitations while the school was in session.
